It’s a fair question. Why should this blog exist, what makes me so special?
First of all, I’m not so special. Just a 25 year-old nerd that likes anime, manga, and a bunch of other things, primarily of the hotblooded variety. I have this blog for two reasons.
REASON #1: I’M PASSIONATELY IMPATIENT.
Here you won’t see anime season previews, arbitrary reviews of things sent to me by a publisher, or overviews of the titles coming out in a given week. I won’t guess at what kind of person would like something I didn’t feel strongly about. I won’t summarize Wikipedia pages or list trivia. That style of blogging burns people out, and it should. It’s crap. I write about stuff I really like or really wanted to like. Stuff worth dwelling on. Stuff I would want to read about. Stuff that makes me feel something.
I have a lot of geeky hobbies, not to escape life, but to supplement it. And I desire only the most potent and effective supplements on the market. There’s no guarantee we’re going to like the same things, but I do guarantee I will present my passions to you with as much honesty and conviction as I’m able. Anything less would waste both our time. (More on my perspective on these things here).
You’re going to die one day. Until then, shouldn’t your entertainment really entertain the hell out of you? If you agree, we should get along fine, regardless of where our tastes part or converge. Just drop me a line so I can keep up with you, either on the blog, Twitter or my e-mail.
REASON #2: NORTH AMERICAN FIST OF THE NORTH STAR FANS ARE PRETTY MUCH INVISIBLE.
There are a lot of North Americans that really like Fist of the North Star. Not as a fucking 4chan meme or inside reference, but legitimately. And we’re not violence-obsessed maniacs, frothing at the mouth. We’re decent, articulate people.
It’s sometimes hard to make note of this fact for a few reasons. Many fans aren’t interested in anime in general. They don’t spend enormous amounts of time on the Internet, commenting on anime news sites, begging publishers to release titles they’d like to see, or going to anime conventions. They have lives to live. They’re hip-hop artists. Or MMA fighters. Or comic book artists. Or chefs at your favorite restaurant. Or tax auditors. Seriously, we’re a Fight Club that doesn’t know it’s there.
My hope is this infinitesimally unimportant blog will demonstrate to the world more Fist of the North Star fans exist than you think. And if I can be of service as a rudimentary recommendation engine in the meantime, all the better.
